Thanks for grabbing the shot list! I’m stoked to see it getting some use. To keep things moving for you, here are two quick things to know:

1. How to use the doc

The link you receive leads to a Google Sheets template. To make it your own, just open it and go to File > Make a Copy. This saves a private version to your own Drive so you can edit, tweak, and reuse it for every shoot. (You don't need to request "edit access"—making a copy is the secret sauce!).

2. Something new is coming

We’re currently building a mobile app designed to handle shot lists and gear tracking right from your iPhone. If you want to take it for a test drive, you can do so here. As a thank you, I’ll shoot you a coupon for an upgrade once we hit the App Store.

Cheers.

Write, Shoot, Edit, and Have Fun!

1. Download it.

Enter you email address below and you will receive a link to download the template. Then save a copy to your own google drive or download to your computer to edit. After you open the file, click File > Make a Copy

2. Fill it.

1st add scenes and your shots for each scene
2nd fill out the time column for each shot in minutes
3rd set the start time in cell B4 (this is the time your activity begins)

3. Use it.

Make sure to bring it with you to use on set. Check off the shots you’ve taken. Review it throughout your shooting day so you don’t forget that critical shot.

Why use a shot list?

Shot list is a great way to remember the shots you need to take to complete your project. There are a lot of things to keep in mind while on the set. A shot list will help you take one thing off your mind and allow you to focus on directing your talent, filming, lighting, composition and all the other important things.

What makes this shot list template special?

You thought the gear checklist template was awesome? Well this shot list is on another level! In addition to writing down each shot you plan to take, this google doc based shot list also creates a schedule for you. All you need to do is add a planned start time and an estimated number of minutes you expect to spend on each shot. At the end it will calculate how much time you are going to need on the set and estimates what time you should be done if you manage to keep on schedule. This is especially important when dealing with daylight. But equally important to schedule around peoples schedules, lunch and anything else that might otherwise be difficult to estimate. As a bonus #1, you can add a safety buffer (recommended 5 minutes) and the sheet will calculate your total run time. And as a bonus #2, this shot list will keep a tally of the number of shots you have planned and as you check them off you’ll know how many are remaining.
